Born Albeon Targaryen, a prince of a lesser branch, he lived most of his life in pursuit of knowledge, contemplation and ethics. Quiet and thoughtful, he grew up peacefully, with no interest in causing harm or doing more than his duty. His life changed radically after what was supposed to be a normal expedition when he was 17. While on an archeological expedition in the Dothraki Sea Albeon, his family, his clan and associates in academia where attacked by a Dothraki khalazar. The vast majority were killed and those remaining, including Albeon were taken as slaves. Albeon was tortured for the amusement of the Khal and his blood riders, his eye being removed and his left hand cut off. The pain, horror and trauma unlocked the sleeping part of his mind that was the memories of all his previous lives, for he was Elrys. Knowing this would continue until he died Elrys used his knowledge of magic to escape his torturers and the Dothraki as a whole, placing a curse on the khalazar for their horrific crimes.
By pure luck, or maybe cruel fate, he is found by traders who saved his life and took him with them to Meereen where he insisted getting on a ship heading for Asshai. Once he is there he is officially confirmed to be Elrys and the Empire rejoices. For there had not been an Elrys to lead them since Arioch fell into his slumber. He heals and plots, having gone from a tender hearted young man to an old one consumed by hatred. During this time he was outfitted with an eerie gem with mystic properties to replace his eye and a metal hand with 6 fingers that moves as if it were flesh and seems to grasp at more than what is found in the material world. Elyrs, still traumatized from his experience even after 1-2 years was further tormented by visions and prophetic dreams. He was the first to see that the dragons were stirring and reclaimed the great dragon Arioch as he rose from his slumber. Now with a dragon he saw it as the perfect time to complete his revenge and see if any of his people could be saved. During this time he also began to make moves and take stock of the overall political situations in Essos and Westeros and try to understand what’s going on that has the dragons waking and the glass candles flickering into life.
He does to Qarth to consult with the warlocks in the House of the Undying on a sudden impulse as he flies to burn the Dothraki sea to ashes, only to get there to see that Daenerys has quite literally just burnt it down. They have a Conversation™ (read: a bitch off).
